Counseling for Children & Teenagers

Solid Child-Clinician Relationship

We start by getting to know your child. We might just talk, or we might focus on non-verbal activities, such as playing a game, building something, or doing a craft together. Our goal is to establish good rapport, to help your child open up to us.

Measurable Goals

We can help define the issues your child is facing, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Mood instability
  • Substance abuse
  • Anger and aggression
  • Self-injury
  • Oppositional and defiant behaviors
  • Peer difficulties

However, for child counseling to be effective, we strive to take these subjective issues and create measurable goals, so that we can achieve real results. The older the child, the more involved they are in defining those goals with us. Together, we'll ask and answer questions like:

  • What will make a difference for you?
  • If things do get better, how will you know?
  • What signs can you look for to determine whether we're making progress?

Our objective always is to help your child move forward.

Whole-System Perspective

Our child therapists and child psychologists bring a unique depth of experience, to reach beyond the standard behavioral therapy framework and draw on additional resources as needed. This broad perspective is particularly helpful with:

  • Addressing developmental delays
  • Children with autism spectrum disorder
  • Coping with divorce
  • Collaboration in education planning/academic difficulties
  • Coping with past traumas

We will also work with your child's school and pediatrician to keep everyone connected and informed, for the benefit of your child and your family.
