Dr. Nichols comes to us from California where he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley and was a varsity letterman for the Track and Field Team. He later obtained both a Master’s of Health Services Administration and his Medical Degree from the university of Southern California. He came to Illinois in 2004 and completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Chicago and his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Illinois, Chicago where he was Chief Fellow. He is Board Certified in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Prior to entering medical school, he spent some time working administratively in the healthcare field before realizing that he was destined to be a clinician. After completing his fellowship, he has spent almost a decade working in different settings including outpatient, residential, partial hospitalization programs, and most intensely in acute inpatient setting where he was most recently the Chief Medical Officer for a large behavioral health hospital. He is on the board of the Illinois Council of child and Adolescent Psychiatry where he advocates for access and quality to mental health care in the State of Illinois.
His treatment philosophy focuses on a team approach working with therapists, teachers, and other clinicians. “Psychiatrists work best when they are part of a patient centered team, and use medication to complement other modalities.” Edgewood fosters that philosophy and creates an environment where clinicians and families can collaborate on treatment.
